Pascal Pierre (GURU)




Pascal Pierre (GURU) is a pioneer of electronic music in Mauritius, with a music career spanning over 40 years. He began his DJing journey in 1986, becoming a resident DJ in 1988 at Sam’s Disco, one of the most iconic clubs in the Indian Ocean at that time.
By 1989, he was already part of history contributed to the birth of FM radio (Sugar FM) in Mauritius, working across radios, television, and early music production. In 1991, he represented Mauritius internationally at the Bataclan in Paris.
Metropolis, a DJ school founded in 1995, was his foundation, and he trained many of today’s leading Mauritian DJs, while actively organizing major events and shaping the local nightlife scene.
In 1999, Pascal Pierre moved to Réunion Island to perform in major nightclubs and on the radio. Back in Mauritius in 2001, he started a unique project merging electronic music with multiple musical instruments, bringing together occidental and oriental music. This was the launch of Sagapataal’s first album with musicians on sitar, tabla, guitar, and electronic music in 2003.
Between 2006 and 2014, he produced several albums, including One Day, One Night and Cultural Implosion with Vincent Michaud (Dastones / People of the Sun), and founded DNA Records, his own music recording studio, where he worked with numerous Mauritian artists and created DJ sets with well-known musicians.
From 2015 to 2018, through GURU et La Tribu, he performed live with artists such as
Menwar, Johan Leste, Bala Codian, Rudolf Quirin, Julien Stone, Stéphanie Martz, and others, developing live DJ–musician experiences in concerts and events. This live orchestra was retranslated into Reflexion album and was presented live in a duo performance of a DJ and a sitarist on an international platform in Sri Lanka.
During 2019, he deepened his electronic music production with the ancient rhythm of Sega (typique). Later, he collaborated with a rap duo for the project Nimero Enn music recording and live with them on La ISLA Dreamers stage.
In 2020, for La ISLA 2068, Pascal Pierre created a new set live on stage with Sagapataal and Manu Desroches.
