If you know P-Square, then you’ve heard of Paul Okoye, now better known as Rudeboy.

The name might not ring a bell at first, and for good reason: before going solo, Paul was one half of the famous Nigerian duo P-Square, formed with his twin brother Peter. The two brothers started out together in school as part of an a cappella group before breaking into the music industry.

Their career truly took off after winning the “Grab Da Mic” competition. Shortly afterwards, they released their first album, Last Nite and were named “Most Promising African Group” at the Kora Awards, before winning the Amen Award for Best R&B Group in 2003.

But after more than a decade of success, the P-Square adventure came to an end in 2016 due to tensions between the brothers. Peter continued his path under the name Mr. P, while Paul, deeply affected by the separation, stepped away from the studio for a while. He even revealed that Peter had been planning his departure for some time.

Despite this difficult period, Paul gradually regained his voice and confidence. He then decided to return under a new identity: Rudeboy. A musical rebirth that allowed him to shine solo with several hits right from the start, such as “Together” featuring Patoranking, “Reality,” and “Somebody Baby.”

Among his biggest successes are also “Audio Money,” “Double Double,” and especially “Reason with Me,” which alone has garnered over 255 million views on YouTube — a number that speaks to Rudeboy’s impact on the afrobeat scene.
