Get ready for a swinging night on May 30th! The Well Foundation invites you to “Sing and Jive to Jazz” at Quartier des Serres, nestled in the heart of Domaine de Labourdonnais—a venue bursting with cosmopolitan charm.
This inaugural edition of the festival promises an electrifying 2-hours and 30-minutes experience, featuring 5 groups of local musicians and vocalists—true legends of Mauritian jazz—stepping into the spotlight to light up the stage. These internationally acclaimed talents will be putting on an unforgettable show, driven by electrifying jazz, gripping vocal intensity and boundless musical energy, for a show that's full of swing and irresistibly danceable!
Philippe Thomas, THE Trumpeter
Kicking things off, Philippe Thomas’s five-piece band—comprising Kersley Pytambar, Belingo Faro, Kristof Bertin, and Samuel Laval—will support the powerful vocals of Marie Luce Faron.
Together, they’ll perform classics like “Speak Low” and a ballad titled “Unexpected Feeling,” a heartfelt tribute to the master Ernest Wiehe, of whom they are among the heirs to the jazz legacy in Mauritius.
Dean Nookadu: Every Note a Surprise
Next, the distinguished pianist Dean Nookadu and his trio, featuring Ashnil Moonisamy and Denis Serret, will treat you to a collection of outstanding compositions, including “Blues Marlin” and “Kat Sat.”
They will also accompany Curly Nookadu, who will captivate the audience with timeless favorites such as “This Masquerade,” “Lose Control,” and “It’s Probably Me.”
Creole Jazz with Toto Lebrasse
Toto Lebrasse and the Kanasuc Jazz Band—featuring Richard Marthe, Kersley Gourdin, John Chee, Samuel Laval, Philippe Thomas, Paul Jean-Louis and the exceptional Fiora Lebrasse—will deliver a vibrant tribute to the late Serge Lebrasse.
They’ll kick off the show with “Moi mo ene ti Kreol,” followed by dynamic renditions of Stevie Wonder's “I Wish” and a salsa-infused version of “La Bohème,” performed by Fiora, setting an energetic tone for the evening.
The Tropical Cocktail of the Kreol Jazz Pioneers
Mylène Bamboche and Le Kreol Jazz Pioneers, established in 2003 by the late Judex Bamboche, will transport you to New Orleans—the birthplace of jazz.
Drawing inspiration from the golden eras of the 1920s to the 1950s, and paying homage to legends like Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, this festive ensemble—including Mylène Lecoq-Bamboche, Frédérique Cloridor, Clarel Massé, Steeve Permal, Stephan L'éveille, Yvon Kimtiah, and Axcel Jean—will serve up a tropical cocktail of traditional Creole jazz.
Adding even more flair to the performance, Mianjah and Lalaina, dancers from Madagascar, will dazzle with their spirited jive moves.
French Classics Reimagined by the Well Band
Join the Well Band – Jazz Version, featuring Steve Desvaux, Patrick Desvaux, Yan Boodhoo, Joevanie Bienvenue, Jean-Noël Ladouce, and Vincent Nombro, as they pay tribute to French jazz, accompanied by the groovy voices of Hugues Massandy, Yannick Jean-Louis, Lydia None, and Mirella Desveaux. Together, they will breathe new life into the beloved classics of Charles Aznavour, Claude Nougaro, Michel Jonasz, Nicole Croisille, and Léo Ferré.
