About the Event : Turkey to Mauritius

On 2nd May, the J&J Auditorium opens its doors to a rare and exceptional show: the Mevlevî Sema ceremony, a millennia-old Sufi ritual based on the teachings of the great master Jalaluddin Rumi (Mevlana) in the 13th century.

The Mevlevî Sema ceremony is a mystical Turkish Sufi ritual, recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, in which whirling dervishes (semazens) dance to attain sacred transcendence and spiritual unity.

On stage, the whirling dervishes perform a mesmerising ritual, symbolising the journey of the human soul toward divine love and perfection. With one hand raised to the sky and the other turned toward the earth, they embody the universal principle: “receive from the Creator, give to humanity.”

Accompanied by the mystical sounds of the ney flute and traditional Sufi music, the Sema ceremony reflects universal values of love, peace, tolerance, and spiritual harmony.
