Blakkayo Biography

Blakkayo, whose real name is Jean Clario Gateaux, was born in Goodlands and grew up in Bois d’Oiseaux, Flacq. His artistic journey began in the 1990s when he first explored the dance world.

During this time, he met Bruno Raya, the leader of Otentik Street Brothers (OSB). He later joined the group alongside Dagger Kila and Ti Kenzo, collectively creating iconic hits such as “Toulezour Mo Dir Li,” “Foss Bizness,” and “Marizann.”

For many years, Blakkayo and OSB dominated the local music scene, becoming one of the island’s most iconic bands and leaving an indelible mark on multiple generations of fans. Blakkayo also contributed to the formation of SOLDA KAZ B.A.D.

In 2000, he made a pivotal shift in his career by releasing his first solo album, “Tchek to Life.” He continued to showcase his talent with notable albums such as “Exterminator” in 2003, “Love N Respect” in 2009, and “Soz Serye” in 2021, work that many consider musical gems.

Over the years, Blakkayo has gained valuable wisdom that enhances his artistry and pushes him to new heights. At the same time, his commitment to justice, love, peace, and freedom has intensified, fueling his activism with unwavering determination.
