The Philharmonia Orchestra combines excellence and innovation to achieve its mission to create the orchestral experience of the future, led by Principal Conductor, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Principal Guest Conductor Marin Alsop, CEO Thorben Dittes, and Chair, Lord King of Lothbury.

The Philharmonia is one of the world’s leading symphony orchestras. Founded in 1945 at the advent of the recording era and defined by such major artistic leaders as Otto Klemperer, Herbert von Karajan, Ricardo Muti, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Christoph von Dohnányi.

The Philharmonia is renowned for its unique sound, benchmark recordings of major repertoire and season-defining concert projects that unite the world’s great music and artists with inspirational insight and educational activity.

Resident at the Royal Festival Hall in the heart of London, and touring across the globe, performing in the world’s great concert halls – from Vienna to Tokyo, from New York to Sao Paolo. Adrián Varela

Adrian’s musical journey began at the age of 7 when a chance encounter with a local music teacher introduced him to the violin. The decision to become a professional musician struck him during a university algebra lecture, prompting him to leave and pursue his passion wholeheartedly.

As the former concertmaster of Uruguay’s national symphony orchestra OSSODRE and Director of Music at de Montfort University, Adrian’s extensive studies in Detroit, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, and London shaped his musical prowess. Holding a Master’s degree in cross-genre performance from the University of London and diplomas in postgraduate performance (DipRAM) and pedagogy (LRAM) from the Royal Academy of Music, Adrian’s academic achievements complement his artistic pursuits.

Beyond his musical accolades, Adrian is a creative producer, conductor, and advocate for social justice. His debut short film, ‘Songs of Isolation,’ financed by the Arts Council England, reached an audience of approximately 700,000 people.

Adrian seamlessly combines musical and philosophical elements in his compositions, performed worldwide by orchestras like the Philharmonia. As the Conductor and Artistic Director of the One Tree Hill Sinfonia in London and the Polish National Youth Orchestra POM LYO, Adrian continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of music.

Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay

Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay, a German-Hungarian violinist, embarked on his musical journey in 1988, commencing lessons at the Magdeburg music school. His formal education included studies under Professor Jost Witter at the Schloss Belvedere Music School and the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Weimar.

Distinguished by multiple international solo accolades, including triumphs at the International Louis Spohr Violin Competition and the International Henry Marteau Violin Competition, Zsolt has left an indelible mark on the German music scene. His solo performances have graced various German orchestras.

Zsolt’s orchestral leadership extends globally, encompassing renowned ensembles like the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, Hamburg Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and more. His virtuosity has resonated across Europe, Russia, Asia, and the US.

Steven Isserlis

Acclaimed worldwide for his profound musicianship and technical mastery, British cellist Steven Isserlis enjoys a unique and distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, author and broadcaster.

As a concerto soloist, he appears regularly with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, including the Berlin Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra Washington, London Philharmonic and Zurich Tonhalle orchestras.

He gives recitals every season in major musical centres and plays with many of the world’s foremost chamber orchestras, including the Australian, Mahler, Norwegian, Scottish, Zurich and St Paul Chamber Orchestras, as well as period-instrument ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. Unusually, he also directs chamber orchestras from the cello in classical programmes.

MGI Auditorium
