Gold, myrrh and frankincense are the three gifts offered by the Three Wise Men (the biblical number for the trinity)—Melchior, Balthazar, and Gaspar—in honour of this child, a symbol of miracle, blessing, and purity.

Gold represents royalty.

Myrrh, once used for embalming, foreshadows His death for the redemption of mankind.

Frankincense is a symbol of divinity.
