Cassiya
Founded in 1992, the band Cassiya gained major popularity in the mid-1990s. The influence of the band Cassiya was not limited to only Mauritius, they also influenced sega musicians from the Reunion Island too. Disbanded in 2003, their music remains memorable for many Mauritians.
With several albums during their time together, Cassiya has many hits such as “Jouni Jouna”, “Marlène”, “Ctyombo li” are hits that can still be heard in the Mauritian households even years after the band has disbanded.
Cassiya counts many famous members such as Alain La Fleur, Désiré François, Gérard Louis, Bruno François, Damien Elisa, Alain Ramanisum, Silvio Ravina, Eddy Armel, Jallil Auckbaraullee and Dominique Isidore. Amongst the first members to quit the band were Alain Ramanisum and Gerard Louis to pursue their own solo career.
Since they disbanded, Désiré François still carries the Cassiya name with Cassiya Neuf as the band that accompanies him. Cassiya Neuf still includes some original members such as Alain Lafleur and Bruno François. Together they produced several albums that talk about patriotism, cruelty and Africanacity.
With new members such as Kusley Joly, Ludovic Matombé,Bruno Chamtyoo et Vivian Henry, the solidarity and fraternity amongst the members is what gave birth to many albums.
