Mario Justin Biography

Mario Justin took his first steps in music in the early 1990s. After a period with Windblows, he founded Zotsa in 1996, a band with which he quickly made a name for himself on the Mauritian sega scene.

The following year, he met Nancy Dérougère at the Sofe Ravann competition. Their collaboration quickly became one of Zotsa’s hallmarks. Together, they performed extensively and helped shape the band’s musical identity, driven by songs such as “Celibater,” “Bater Bis,” “Mo Apel George,” “Kan Tanbour Bate,” and “Ravann Pe Bate.”

On stage, Mario Justin developed a style all his own: generous, sun-drenched music, an instinctive sense of rhythm, and a very personal way of dancing sega. His movements and sega steps—now instantly recognizable—are an integral part of his performances. He is one of those artists who doesn’t just perform a song—he embodies it.

Over the years, Mario Justin has taken on many roles: performer, musician, composer, producer, and publisher. In 2021, he reunited with the members of Zotsa for *Revival*, marking the group’s return after several years away. Three decades later, Mario Justin continues on his musical journey with the same artistic identity.
