People of the Sun

In 2007, People of the Sun was formed out of friendship rather than career ambition. For several years, the band performed at numerous events and stages across Mauritius. At a time when groups such as Black Men Blues, Etae, and Trio were emerging, the group was often referred to as the Mauritian Massive Attack.
Originally, People of the Sun was composed of Yavin Coopan (Vocals and Guitar), Yan Hookoomsing (Drums), Pascal Pierre (Keyboard), Vincent Michaud (Keyboard), and Pawan Holkoory (Bass). Together, they created a rich and atmospheric sound blending live instruments with deep musical influences.
Yavin Coopan, as the leading singer accompanied by his guitar, has been at the heart of the band’s identity and energy. He began his musical journey with bands Korky, People of the Sun (POTS), and Urban Rhythms, and continues today to perform live with various musicians.
