About the artists : CONCERT CASSIYA ROOTS
Cassiya Roots
In 1993, Gérard Louis, Alain Ramanisum, Alain Lafleur, Bruno Francois and Jean Claude Fanfan, talented young musicians living in the Cassis district of Port Louis, decided to form a group. At the tender age of 16, the artist Alain Ramanisum proposed the name CASSIYA for the group.
After the launch of the first album “Séparation – Zanfan Perdi Simé” with Rev Nou Zanset, Rama Poonoosamy from IMMEDIA launched the album CASSIYA II with Marlenn at the Hotel St. Georges and CASSIYA III with “Isi Kot Nou Eté” at the Hotel Labourdonnais. Thus, the CASSIYA sound was born!
Moreover, other albums followed with very popular songs that were immediately hummed by Mauritians from here and elsewhere because the CASSIYA sound is considered unique! Cassiya’s career has been marked by successes in Mauritius, Reunion, the Indian Ocean and even in Europe. IMMEDIA produced the CASSIYA Indian Ocean Concert in 1998 at the Citadelle and afterwards, a big free CASSIYA concert in Rodrigues.
Their songs can still be heard in Mauritian homes even years after the group’s dissolution.
Didier Clarel
Didier Clarel is known for his album ‘Tan Sannla’ by his Mauritian fans, launched in 2012. Popular hits like ‘Cécilia’, ‘Roi to leker’ and ‘Mo papa’ have reached over 1 million views on YouTube. He is one of the most popular artists on the Mauritian music scene and continues to thrill his fans with his new songs.
Bruno Malcolm
Bruno Malcolm has been a backing singer for various local artists over the past few years. He has worked on several songs such as ‘Ici nou dance sega’, ‘Edwize’, and also his album ‘Zoli tifi mo pays’ which have captured the hearts of his fans.
Bruno Mooken
Bruno Mooken is known for his album ‘Ena enn bondie’. He released his album in 2015 and achieved a sultry success. He is the artist behind the songs ‘Lévé Dibouté’ in 1996 and ‘Zanfant Défavorizé’ with Cassiya.
Laura Beg
Passionate about music, Laura Beg started singing at an early age. She was a backing singer for Cassiya and later joined the group Ravana founded by Alain Ramanisum. With three albums and several collaborations with other artists, she is one of the favourite artists of Mauritians and is also known internationally. She has performed in Reunion Island, Australia and Europe. Her first album, Tik Tiker, released in 2011, was a huge success and can still be heard at balls, birthdays and much more.
Manyan Group
Piqué sega and Creole songs form the largest part of Manyan’s repertoire. They are a musical group from Reunion. Their success has certainly been amplified by their hilarious songs and sometimes spicy feelings, especially in the Saint-Paul region, where they were born.
With eight albums and four best-offs as well as a 3-CD box sets, 44 tracks to their credit, five of which are best-sellers, a DVD and a live CD at the Téat de Saint-Gilles in 2008, the group is a real success.
