Philharmonia Festival in Mauritius – Beethoven Concert 4 – Symphonies 7 & 8: 29 Jan – 20h

From 22 to 31 January 2027 at the Trianon Convention Centre, the Philharmonia Orchestra returns to Mauritius with its most ambitious project on the island to date.

Following two successful visits, the Philharmonia Orchestra returns to Mauritius from 22 to 31 January 2027 for its biggest Festival on the island to date. 75 world-class musicians will take over the Trianon Convention Centre for 10 days of orchestral performances, Mauritian collaborations and community activities.

The Festival features the complete Beethoven cycle, with all nine symphonies performed across five evenings, marking 200 years since Beethoven’s death. Renowned journalist, author and broadcaster John Suchet OBE will guide audiences through Beethoven’s life and the evolution of his symphonies. Ryan Bancroft will conduct Symphonies Nos. 1–6, while Paul McCreesh CBE will conduct Symphonies Nos. 7–9.

The first four Beethoven concerts will each feature a specially commissioned orchestral encore on a Mauritian theme by Richard Birchall, alongside four Half-Time Shows featuring Mauritian musicians, dancers, acrobats and performers. Sarah Honoré, Nina Hellis, Arvind Bhujun, Neriyen Veerapin, Les Frères Joseph, Kritya Fusion and Impulsion Events will respond to Beethoven and themes including heroism, rhythm and nature.

The Festival will also feature the world premiere of William Mival’s Louis en Maurice, specially commissioned for the Festival and performed alongside Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. The finale will bring together the Philharmonia, Island Voices Mauritius Choir and Francis Thomé Choir, with the Ode to Joy performed in Creole, English and French.
