About the Event: Concert Tiombô at the IFM

For the 2nd edition of the Trou d'Eau Douce Book Festival and the inauguration of the new media library of the Institut français de Maurice, TIOMBÔ will have you swaying to the rhythms of Creole music at an exclusive concert.

TIOMBÔ Live in concert on Thursday, October 6th, at the amphitheatre of the IFM in Rose-Hill!

In Mauritian Creole, "tiombô" means "hold on", " stay put ". TIOMBÔ; a unique encounter between maloya and sega drum and two great griots: the emblematic Olivier ARASTE from Reunion Island and the phenomenon Lelou MENWAR, an atypical Mauritian musician.

They will be accompanied by the Mauritian percussionist Kersley SHAM and the Frenchman FIXI on piano and accordion. These instruments, by the way, are not uncommon to music originating from the Indian Ocean islands such as Madagascar, Reunion, Mauritius, Rodrigues and Seychelles.

The maloya and the sega tambour combined, is the muted music of the sugar cane fields that can be heard in broad daylight. It is the soul of a nation. The powerful and poetic texts, the rhythms and the songs of TIOMBÔ let the "Babani", the Spirit, rise...

The ravanne drum, whose bewitching sound is combined with that of the rouleur (large drum), the maravanne (kayamb), the bobre (single-stringed bow) and the kabosy (small Malagasy guitar), sings the story of uprooted people.

They retrace the eventful history of these islands’ hybridisation and of today's world. The stage is set: the courtyard of a Creole "kaz", a chronicle of daily life, where people meet, exchange and live. « Ralentir... » sings Menwar, to find the path of the simple gestures of everyday life, which are constantly repeated and renewed, for a stronger and more universal transmission.

TIOMBÔ is a work of art for cultural and generational exchange, a celebration of the ancestors, a spiritual plea, a jubilant trance. See you on October 06, 2022 at the amphitheatre of the IFM in Rose-Hill, for an exceptional musical fusion.

Media library subscribers, please apply the promotional code that was sent to you by IFM to benefit from a special discount. Access to the concert at a reduced tariff will be conditional upon presentation of the subscription card.
