About the artists :
Désiré François and Cassiya
Originally from a village in the capital, Cassis, Désiré François wanted to become a footballer but was introduced to music. He hit his first instrument at a very young age and developed a love of music from there. In the 1980s, Désiré François began to compose songs based on what was happening on the island and what he witnessed in his surroundings.
In 1992, he made his first appearance on a television show called Star Show. It was from this moment onwards that Désiré François unveiled his talent behind his song ”Séparation”, a song about his life.
Founded in 1992 by Désiré François, the group Cassiya became very popular during the 1990s. Cassiya’s influence is not limited to Mauritius, but has also influenced musicians from Reunion Island. Désiré François and Cassiya have several hits to their credit such as “Ici Kot Nu Ete”, “Rev Nu Zansèt”, “Marlène” and the more recent “Di Pain Griyé” and “Zanfan Sité”.
