About Anjalay Coopen Stadium

About Anjalay Coopen Stadium

In the heart of Mapou, Belle Vue, stands one of Mauritius’ most iconic sporting landmarks: the Anjalay Coopen Stadium. Inaugurated in 1991, this emblematic venue continues—more than three decades later—to ignite the nation’s passion.

As a premier home for Mauritian football, the stadium has hosted countless thrilling matches, including fixtures featuring the national team. Surrounding the pitch, its athletics track has witnessed moments of glory, ambition, and unforgettable victories.

Yet Anjalay Coopen is far more than a traditional stadium. Its vast parking area regularly transforms into a playground for motorsport enthusiasts, hosting national-level car and motorcycle races that electrify the crowd.

On the entertainment side, the venue has been the stage for some of Mauritius’ most memorable milestones: the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games, the celebration of the nation’s 45th Independence anniversary, and the remarkable world record for the largest human floating flag, uniting 6,145 participants.

The stadium has also pulsed with international energy. World-renowned artists and DJs—such as Dadju, Blakkayo, and Kalash—have delivered captivating performances, turning the arena into a true musical powerhouse.

Today, Anjalay Coopen remains one of the island’s most versatile and dynamic venues—where sport, culture, and collective emotion converge to create lasting memories.
