Gerard Louis
Born on April 14, 1964, in Petite Riviere and raised in Residence Valijee, Gérard Louis emerged as a versatile artist with a rich musical journey. Hailing from a family of 8 children, some of whom were musicians, Gérard’s affinity for music took root early.
At the age of 15, he acquired his first guitar and delved into learning and playing in a religious choir of passion. Initially working as a trimmer, a shift towards music became his calling when unemployment struck. Guided by his friend Patrick Ahting, Gérard embarked on a musical path.
In 1971, he began his career as a musician in hotels, contributing to the group “Energie” alongside Mario Justin and Bruno François. By 1992, Gérard became a pivotal figure in the group Windblows, and concurrently, he co-founded the iconic sega music group, Cassiya.
From 1992 to 2003, he played a crucial role in Cassiya, releasing their debut album “Separation” in 1993, solidifying their name in the industry. Notable achievements include winning the “Disc of the Year” in 1994 and 1995, as well as receiving the “Golden Disc” in Reunion Island in 2003.
Venturing into music production in 1995, Gérard extended his support to artists such as Nasty Black, System R, Bruno Mooken, Sandra Mayotte and Maista. His contributions earned him a biography in 2003 titled “Tout Pour La Musique,” accompanied by an album “Pourtant Tout Rékoumansé.”
In 2004, Gérard Louis launched his solo career, forming “Gérard Louis et Son Orchestre” and releasing his debut solo song, “Ki Ti Pou Dir.” Influenced by elder friends like Gaetan Abel, he has produced a total of 6 albums with Cassiya and 2 solo albums.
Today, Gérard Louis is not only a seasoned producer but also an organizer of shows featuring renowned artists such as Roch Voisine, Frédéric François, and more.
Reflecting on his remarkable journey, Gérard cherishes the pinnacle achievement of performing at the Olympia in France with Cassiya and takes pride in the accolade Sandra Mayotte received for a song he penned.
