Melanie Peres and Paf’Me
Melanie Peres got the artistic genes from her late father, Patrick Peres, who was a segatier who introduced Melanie to music. After having performed with the band Favory and the band Flashback, she also tried her hand at literature with her novel, Tigann, traverse enn madam dan divan kontrer, a novel fully written in creole which also won the literary competition organised by the Creole Speaking Union in 2016. Also a teacher of French and Creole Studies, Melanie teaches at the college St Esprit and pursues her passion for music at the same time.
Melanie Peres was absent from the scene for a brief period to focus on her family and soon participated in the second edition of Konpoz to Lamizik together with Paf’Me. Paf’Me is also not unknown to the Mauritian public. Previous members of the now disbandaed Les Inkonnus, Lionnel, Lucas Cupidon and Yann Payet formed the new band Paf’Me and is now accompanying Melanie Peres in her journey.
By participating in the competition Konpon to Lamizik, Melanie Peres and Paf’Me charmed not only the public but also the jury of the competition. The rhythmic and contemporary music based on Creole words of another time was a hit amongst the public and jury and it is without doubt that the titles from the group ‘Sarouyar’ and ‘Krike Krake’ stood out the most in the competition and won the competition.
The organisers of Konpoz to Lamizik, Attitude Hotels, financed and helped with the production of the clip for the song ‘Krike Krake’ which talks about the struggles of being a woman. The song and the clip helped Melanie Peres and Paf’me gained major success.
