Warren Permal
In a surprising turn of events, Warren Permal found himself not only creating music but also witnessing two of his songs, “Agatha” in 2017 and “Eliza” in 2018, crowned as ‘Song of the Year’ on radio. Despite his enduring passion for music, the idea of performing his creations before an audience seemed like an unimaginable feat for Warren.
While studying at St.-Mary’s College, he often did slam poetry and did not think about performing music as he was a shy person. However, inspiration came from another student from the same college, Gary Victor, who already started singing during shows at the college when he realised that he could do it too.
Warren Permal’s primary hurdle was his shyness, a challenge he had to conquer at the outset of his musical journey. In 2013, he co-founded the band ‘Who Knows’ with friends, entertaining at events like balls and fairs. Despite members departing, Warren’s determination intensified. In 2015, he triumphed by releasing his inaugural single, “Mo Envie Marier.”
In the following years, he released several singles such as “Danse Séga”, and ‘Parents’ and even held virtual concerts in 2020 during the lockdown. Warren Permal is an artist who believes his music should not only be recognised amongst Mauritians. He collaborated with artists such as Médérice, Perle Lama and Singah and even went on tour in Canada, Europe and Australia.
Currently, firmly rooted in Mauritius’ music landscape and garnering acclaim on Reunion Island, Warren Permal has set his sights on an international mission. Already making strides with performances in renowned venues like the Olympia and Bercy in France, he’s on a trajectory of global success.
